Instructions - Applying Anti-Slip Coatings
How to properly apply an anti-slip coating from Priotech Industrie
The anti-slip coatings from Priotech Industrie offer maximum safety and durability for a wide variety of surfaces. For the coating to achieve its full effect, careful and professional application is essential. Here are the detailed work steps, surface preparation requirements, and important notes for achieving a perfect result.
The work steps in detail
The process can be divided into three main phases: preparation, application, and curing.
1. Preparing the surface
Preparation is the most important step. Inadequate preparation leads to poor adhesion and premature wear.
Cleaning: The surface must be completely clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, oil, silicone, or old, loose coatings. For cleaning, we recommend a special cleaner (e.g., the Priotech special cleaner). Afterward, the area must be rinsed thoroughly with water and dried completely.
Sanding: Smooth surfaces must be lightly sanded to ensure better adhesion. A light sanding (e.g., with 120-grit) is sufficient.
Repairing: Uneven areas, cracks, or holes must be patched with a suitable repair mortar before coating.
2. Applying the coating
Masking: Carefully mask off all areas that are not to be coated using masking tape.
Mixing: Most Priotech Industrie anti-slip coatings are two-component products. Mix the two components (base paint and hardener) in the specified ratio and stir thoroughly using a drill mixer. Do not stir too quickly to avoid air bubbles.
Applying: Apply the coating quickly using a brush, a short-pile roller, or a rubber squeegee.
Brush: Suitable for corners and edges.
Roller: Ideal for larger, flat surfaces.
Rubber squeegee: Recommended if you want to ensure an even layer thickness.
Anti-slip effect: Depending on the product, the anti-slip granules are already included in the paint or are sprinkled into the still-wet layer after the first coat. Sprinkle them evenly until the area is covered.
Second coat: For some products, a second coat is recommended after the first has dried in order to seal the granules and maximize durability.
3. Curing and drying
Be sure to follow the product data sheet regarding drying time and full curing. These times can vary depending on temperature and humidity. The coating must not be walked on or subjected to loads during the drying phase.
Which surfaces are suitable for the coating?
Priotech Industrie coatings adhere to a variety of substrates, including:
Metal (steel, aluminum)
Concrete and cement screed
Tiles and clinker
Wood
Plastic
A primer may be required for highly absorbent substrates such as concrete or screed.
Which mistakes should be avoided?
Inadequate preparation: The most common mistake. Residues of grease, oil, or loose material prevent optimal adhesion and lead to the coating peeling off.
Moisture: The substrate must be absolutely dry. Remaining moisture can cause bubbles in the coating.
Incorrect mixing ratio: Follow the mixing ratio of base paint and hardener exactly. An incorrect ratio can impair the curing process.
Temperature and humidity: Do not work at temperatures that are too high or too low, and pay attention to the humidity. Both can significantly affect the processing and drying time.
Incorrect tools: Use a short-pile roller to avoid layers that are too thick.
What materials do you need?
Cleaner and scrubbing brush
Sandpaper (e.g., 120-grit) and possibly a sanding machine
Masking tape
Brush for corners and edges
Short-pile roller or rubber squeegee
Work clothing, protective gloves, and respirator mask (recommended)
